Harry Potter Extract Evaluation

Harry Potter Evaluation                                                                                Chloe George

For the credit sequence we chose drums that made it feel dark and eerie. It drew attention to the title 'Harry Potter'. The beating drums are slow and loud which give it that eerie effect. But as you go further into the credits we added some music which made it sound adventurous. This sounds good because you are flying through clouds and does seem like you are on an adventure. On the credits you are flying through clouds but it is dark and the clouds are black. This is why we used quite dark sounds and effects for the opening. When the bright light appeared and we go into the view of looking over the fields and motorway we used sounds that made it feel like the audience was there. We used bird noises and an aeroplane noise over the top which sounded like it was going over. To make it better we should of made the adventurous music fade out in the titles which means it would of blended well.

How effective? 7/10

For the playground sequence we chose music that was happy and cheerful. It suited the mood of the little boy and his mother on the roundabout and Harry watching them together. It also had a sad side to it which suited the moment when harry looks at them and smiles. We used sound effects that made the mood eerie and built the momentum of Harry going up to the boy with his wand. We used a piercing and siering noise which faded in after the music and got louder and louder. When the clouds go dark above them we used thunder and rain storm sounds. This suited what was happening as the clouds closed over and when they were running in the rain.

How effective? 8/10

When Harry and the other character enter the tunnel we chose music that would set the mood. The music we used was parallel. The mood we created was very dark and created a nervous effect like something bad was about to happen. You could hear the wind sound effects but it was also silent and had a piercing sound again. When the Dementors are first seen we had noises which worked with the frightening moment when harry is grabbed up against the wall. When the dementors were sucking in the boys souls we had a wind like effect which howled and made it sound like it was happening. We had an effect for the rain and the cars passing over which worked well when you see the cars which made it diegetic sound. We also had effects for the footsteps of the old lady which also worked with what was happening and was digetic sound.

How effective? 7/10

I am pleased with our final sequence overall as all our sounds suited the moods and created effects on the audience. They also made what was happening have digetic sounds and they went with what was happening in the movie. I feel that we could have made some different sound effects to suit some of the things that happened like when the boy slips over we could have added an effect to that part. I feel the music throughout suited the sequence and so did some of the sound effects. The sound effects of the wind worked really well when harry and the other character were in the tunnel as it created an eerie mood.

How effective? 7/10
